stabicraft_150Stabicraft Marine, based in Invercargill at the bottom of New Zealand’s South Island, has delivered nine custom 659 Wheel House vessels to Alaska where they will be used as observation boats to monitor the gill net fishery and the fishery’s interaction with sea mammals and sea birds. The vessel orders came at a special request from Saltwater Inc. The nine Stabicraft vessels will begin on water operations in the coming weeks. Read the rest of this entry »

stu-2608-caruao_inea-venezuela_150Damen Shipyards will shortly deliver three tugboats to INEA (Instituto Nacional de los Espacios Acuaticos, the Venezuelan Aquatic Authority). This repeat-order follows a previous order for two Damen Stan Tugs purchased by INEA in 2009. The tugs will be used in the Venezuelan ports of Puerto Cabello and La Guaira. The tugs - two were built in Cuba and one in Romania - will assist the ships entering and leaving the harbour. Read the rest of this entry »

markii_150Rongsheng Shipbuilding Heavy Industries, a large heavy industries shipbuilding group in China, has chosen Mark II, OceanSaver’s next generation ballast water treatment (BWT) system, for two 317.000DWT VLCC newbuildings. The contract comes just weeks after DNV type approval, certifying Mark II to fully meet the requirements of the International Ballast Water Convention and six previous OceanSaver BWT system orders. alnmaritec-iraq_200Late last year two unusual vessels from Alnmaritec arrived in Iraq on their way to serve in Basrah, Iraq. The two sisters, Arttawi I & II are modified Wave Worker class boats designed for oil spill protection duties at a busy oil terminal. The boats are 12 m long with a catamaran hull form and carry a hydraulic oil boom deployment reel as well as a range of oil recovery and dispersant equipment and recovered oil storage. kawasa1Kawasaki Heavy Industries has completed the development of a large, 9 000TEU, 308m container ship fuelled by LNG and obtained Approval in Principle from DNV. The ship is designed with a new type of LNG tank that provides more space for container cargo. The LNG is stored in prismatic low pressure insulated tanks (Type B) and this is the first time that such tanks have been proposed for a large container ship. Read the rest of this entry »

rr_150Rolls-Royce has been awarded two contracts to design and equip seven vessels for Brazilian ship owner Navegação São Miguel Ltd. The contracts, for four Rolls-Royce designed UT 535 E Oil Spill Response Vessels (OSRVs) and three bunker tankers - a new NVC 604 BT design - are worth GBP 23 million to Rolls-Royce. disney_fantasy_150The Disney Fantasy is expected to leave Meyer Werft in Papenburg this Friday night, 20 January 2012 to be conveyed down the river Ems to the North Sea, depending on the weather conditions. She is scheduled to arrive in Eemshaven on Saturday afternoon. After a short stop in port the test-and-adjust period will begin. csd500-along-quay_150In the last week of 2011, Damen Dredging Equipment delivered their last cutter suction dredger (CSD) of the year: the CSD500 Conchas. Its owner, the UK based company Marina and Ports Services, ordered the dredger mid October. The standard dredger was taken from Damen’s stock and fitted out with a large number of customised options in a mere two months. The Conchas was shipped in the first week of 2012. bbrr_150Global power systems company, Rolls-Royce, has signed a contract to deliver highly efficient engines and propulsion systems for the world’s first Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) powered tugs. The two vessels have been ordered by Norwegian company Buksér og Berging AS and will enter service in late 2013 for international energy company Statoil and Gassco, the operator of the gas transportation network off the Norwegian coast. scana_150Scana Industrier ASA, has through its subsidiaries Scana Steel Björneborg, Scana Steel Söderfors and Scana Machining, signed a three years supply agreement with Rolls-Royce. The frame agreement put Scana into a unique position as one of the key suppliers of Rolls-Royce.
