In non-operating conditions, the davit is located behind a wall under the wheel house for two reasons: More available deck space onboard the PSV; Protecting the davit system and fast rescue boat from harsh weather conditions offshore. Damen recently outfitted dredging gear for a new multi-functional TSHD. Abeko Shipping, the owner of 88m the Contender, opted for a major refit of the 1998-built coaster for the dredging market. The vessel was widened to 16 m, adding the necessary gangway width for the 700 mm Damen trailing pipe and making space for the 2.670 m³ hopper. Read the rest of this entry »

The Ulstein-designed platform supply vessel ‘CBO Pacifico’ left the Estaleiro Alianca yard last week. The new build went straight into contract for Petrobras. The vessel is the second of the PX106 design delivered to CBO this year. Read the rest of this entry »

Dutch repair yard Shipdock Harlingen recently completed an interesting and difficult job for Dutch offshore seismic survey company Tranship. Damen Shiprepair Götaverken is installing a catalyzer system on board the tanker ‘Bit Oktania’ from Tarbit Shipping. While holding the vessel at one the Swedish yard’s dry docks for regular maintenance, the ship owners decided to upgrade to an emission reducing system. Damen Shipyards recently delivered the ‘Bremen 1′ Damen Fire Fighting Vessel 2406 (FFV) to the City of Bremen to replace its 1975-built predecessor. Both the local police force and the fire brigade will use the vessel for emergency response. The police will patrol the Port of Bremen and the Weser River with the new build. Last week Meyer Werft celebrated the keel laying of the cruise ship with the yard number S.678 - the first of two new ships the yard is building for Norwegian Cruise Line. The Norwegian Breakaway Class cruise ship, which will accommodate 4,000 passengers and more than 1,500 crew members, is scheduled for delivery in spring 2013. Read the rest of this entry »

Wärtsilä will supply a complete power system, including two of its 6-cylinder Wärtsilä 20DF dual-fuel medium-speed engines, for a new dry cargo inland waterway vessel. This will be the first ever medium speed, dual-fuel, mechanically driven inland waterway vessel capable of operating for 95-99 percent of the time on LNG fuel, with a minimum of pilot marine gas oil (MGO) used for ignition. UK-based marine design business Houlder will prepare a design and build specification for a new Gosport ferry. The vessel will operate on the established cross-harbour route between Portsmouth and Gosport. Due for delivery in 2014, she will be comparable in size to the company’s existing fleet including the 32m Spirit of Gosport, which has the capacity for up to 300 passengers.
