wartsilaWärtsilä, has been selected to supply its flexible gas propulsion solution for a series of new LNG carriers to be built at the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in South Korea. The selection of Wärtsilä gas engines is indicative of the current emphasis by owners on the latest technology, and a growing environmental commitment to reducing fuel consumption and lowering emissions. By installing the Wärtsilä 50DF engines, the ships will be capable of meeting the IMOs strict Tier III emission requirements. (more…)

  • damen_2_klein1Effective September 2010 the cargo vessel activities of the Damen Shipyards Cargo Vessels and Damen Shipyards Bergum will be combined and located in Bergum, the Netherlands. As a result of this effort the complete production line of sea going cargo vessels can be offered and delivered. This production line consists of a series of tankers of 2.500 to 8.000 tons and a series of multi purpose cargo vessels of 2.500 to 13.500 tons deadweight.  (more…)

  • Dutch Sea Shipping Rates Further Up

    Icbs150x150_e3128g1n the first quarter of 2010, sea shipping rates were 12 percent higher than In the previous quarter. In the last two quarters of 2009, sea shipping rates also increased. Higher rates are caused by an increase in the demand for sea shipping services and higher fuel costs. Rates have risen by more than 11 percent relative to the first quarter of 2009. Fuel prices were more than 83 percent higher than one year ago. Both price increases were the highest in four years. (more…)

Specially developed for application in the columns of semi-submersible rigs, the ‘Dynatite’ system can be used in many hazardous areas as blast walls, explosion proof areas, subsea applications and all those situations where a (sudden) substantial pressure might arise and a high degree of (instantaneous) tightness of the sealing system is required.

    chineseChinese shipbuilder New Times Shipbuilding (NTS) introduces simulation-driven design to its product development. NTS has signed a contractual agreement with GL’s maritime software developer Friendship systems. The contract includes the licensing of engineering software and design support for the development of a large crude oil tanker. By introducing the simulation-driven design software the shipyard aims to improve the efficiency of its products, streamlining its design work and increasing its competitiveness. (more…)
