OceanSaver announced that Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Company (DSIC) has ordered ballast water management (BWM) systems for six VLCCs thus lifting the company’s order book to approximately NOK 280 million. The DSIC VLCC contract follows recent OceanSaver BWM system orders with Hyundai Heavy Industries for two Suezmax crude-oil tankers and six VLCCs at the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Company. OceanSaver has announced signing a major contract with Hyundai Heavy Industries in Korea for the delivery of two ballast water management (BWM) systems for Gungen, a leading Turkish owner and operator of high-spec Suezmax crude-oil tankers. Valued at NOK 25 million (EUR 3.15 million), the Gungen BWM agreement follows OceanSaver’s six VLCC BWM system deal. (more…)

During three days of extensive testing, the advanced capability of Consilium’s oil spill radar to detect oil slicks has been successfully verified. The sea trials were part of an exercise in order to certify satisfactory safety and efficiency in oil spill response operations. The operation was conducted by the Norwegian Clean Seas Association For Operating Companies (NOFO) from 8 to 10 June 2010. (more…)

Marine Aluminium AS and TTS Energy are forming the Uptime Alliance, a technology and marketing collaboration that will contribute to increased efficiency and safety for offshore vessels and marine installations. The alliance currently offers two unique systems: the Uptime Helideck - the world’s only motion compensated helideck - and the Uptime Gangway. The dedicated website will go live 1 July 2010. (more…)

The innovative new Mobilarm V100 VHF PLB, which uses VHF DSC and GPS to provide automatic man overboard (MOB) alerting and location has won the prestigious Safety Award at the Seatrade Asia Awards 2010. The award reflects Mobilarm’s long-established position at the forefront of marine safety technology and joins the Safety at Sea Award from the 2005 Seatrade Awards for their crew monitoring alarm system. Following recent EASA (European Aviation Safety Authorities) approval of the company’s helicopter suit, Viking has become one of only a few suppliers in the world able to offer a fully ETSO-approved system comprising a transportation suit and lifejacket. All EASA members travelling by helicopter in hostile sea areas must have personal protective equipment that complies with the new regulations. (more…)

Cyprus based shipowning companies Intership Navigation Co. Ltd. (ISN) and Athena Marine Co. Ltd. have received the GL Excellence - 5 Stars certificate of classification society Germanischer Lloyd (GL). The certificate is awarded for the introduction of highest and up-to-date safety, environment protection and quality standards. Capt. Eugen H. Adami (rigth), Managing Director of ISN/Athena, received the certificate and the trophy from GL’s COO and Executive Vice President Torsten Schramm in presence of more than 300 guests. (more…)
